Salt kiln built is Sept 2009, now fired 30 times (June, 2010), fueled by waste vegetable oil, discarded by local restaurants. The oil sprayed into the kiln with compressed air. Each firing takes about 14 hours.
500,000 BTU Pipe burner, no pre-heating and no pilot light, just waste vegetable oil and compressed air.
